The IOSH Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health Leadership and Management is an advanced professional qualification built around the IOSH competency framework. The qualification consists of three mandatory Level 6 units, all of which must be successfully completed.

Advanced Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Management Principles in Organisations

Develop advanced understanding of OSH legal frameworks, risk management and management principles. Learners explore how different approaches can be applied, developed and critically evaluated within an organisational context.

The IOSH qualification structure allocates 13 credits/60 GLH to L6D01, 13 credits/50 GLH to L6D02 and 12 credits/45 GLH to L6D03.

Assessment & Examinations

The qualification is assessed through IOSH Awarding Organisation-set work-based assignments. Assessments are internally assessed by the approved Study Centre and externally quality assured by IOSH.

Frequently Asked Questions

The IOSH Level 6 Diploma is an advanced professional OSH qualification based on the IOSH competency framework. It develops advanced technical knowledge together with behavioural, leadership and core business capabilities required to influence and lead occupational safety and health across an organisation.

It is designed primarily for ambitious OSH professionals who have, or aspire to have, responsibility for managing occupational safety and health policy, procedures and practice and who may report to or form part of a senior leadership team.

There are no mandatory qualification entry requirements. However, IOSH strongly recommends that learners have completed the IOSH Level 3 Certificate or an equivalent IOSH-accredited qualification and/or have suitable experience because this level of prior learning is assumed. Learners should also be aged 19 or above.

The qualification is taught and assessed in English. IOSH states that learners should demonstrate English language comprehension equivalent to IELTS 7.0 where the specified English-language evidence requirements apply.

Assessment consists of a Technical Evaluation Assignment, an OSH Strategic Proposal Assignment and a Self-Reflection Assignment. The assessments include written reports, presentations and, for the Strategic Proposal, assessor-led questions and answers.

The qualification uses assignment-based assessment rather than a traditional multiple-choice examination. The assessment methods include workplace-focused written reports, presentations, questions and answers and self-reflection.

Yes. IOSH describes it as a globally recognised professional qualification, and it is regulated by Ofqual.

Yes. Successful completion meets the academic requirements for Graduate/Certified IOSH membership, although relevant experience and mandatory CPD requirements must also be met.
