Course Structure
The qualification consists of three mandatory Level 6 units, all of which must be successfully completed.
Advanced Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Management Principles in Organisations
Develop advanced understanding of OSH legal frameworks, risk management and management principles. Learners explore how different approaches can be applied, developed and critically evaluated within an organisational context.
Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Integration Within an Organisation
Develop the ability to critically appraise organisational OSH performance and understand how internal and external factors influence strategic decision-making, culture, sustainability and business performance.
Leading and Influencing in Occupational Safety and Health (OSH)
Develop advanced leadership and influencing capabilities required to challenge existing practices, manage change, communicate effectively and drive organisation-wide improvements in occupational safety and health.
The IOSH qualification structure allocates 13 credits/60 GLH to L6D01, 13 credits/50 GLH to L6D02 and 12 credits/45 GLH to L6D03.
Assessment & Examinations
The qualification is assessed through IOSH Awarding Organisation-set work-based assignments. Assessments are internally assessed by the approved Study Centre and externally quality assured by IOSH.

A workplace-focused assessment for Unit L6D01 requiring learners to critically evaluate, apply and justify approaches to OSH management and compliance.
Assessment EvidenceOSH Strategic Proposal Assignment
An advanced strategic assessment covering Units L6D02 and L6D03. Learners examine organisational OSH performance and influencing factors and develop proposals for organisation-wide improvement.
Assessment EvidenceSelf-Reflection Assignment
A reflective assessment within Unit L6D03 requiring learners to critically review their own capability and performance as an OSH leader and identify areas for continuing professional development.

The IOSH Level 6 Diploma provides an important professional progression route for occupational safety and health practitioners. Successful completion meets the academic requirements for Graduate/Certified IOSH membership (GradIOSH/CertIOSH), subject to meeting IOSH's applicable experiential and CPD requirements.
The qualification handbook states that a minimum of two years' relevant full-time experience and mandatory CPD are required in addition to the academic qualification for the specified membership progression.
